Oh. case studies! As a student, I initially disliked them because there is rarely a clear cut answer. Over time I grew to accept they were part of my accounting education and that unlike the textbook problems few decisions in business end up providing a clear outcome.

As an instructor I do use them. I agree with Bev in her analysis that they help link the gap between the theoretical and practical worlds. It is important how they are introduced to students as a learning tool and means of assessment on a more holistic use of what they have learned and their ability to apply the knowledge and skills in really situations.

When I use case studies in my online classes I need to remember to provid clear objectives and guiding questions the students need to answer.
